Farther 2019. The Plan

This summer's road trip is 3 months and 25,000 kilometers of northern Canadian goodness.  I've posted the general plan before, but this time I thought I'd share a list of some of the highlights I hope to see. (in approximately the order I plan to see them) B1  Wood Buffalo National Park, AB. The largest …

Farther 2019. Hard but worth it.

Road tripping is hard. But so worth it. It's easy for me to talk about all the great things, but somehow the trials are what makes them great. These past few days have been more trial than anything else, but I have been held up and helped just when I needed it. I've probably pushed …

Farther 2019. Wood Buffalo Park and Fort Smith

A few days ago I visited Wood Buffalo Park and Fort Smith, NWT and I was blown away by the hidden wonders. Wood Buffalo park is the largest park in Canada and its tucked away at the end of a long, lonely road, straddling Alberta and North West Territories. When I first added it to …

Farther 2019. The Road to Wrigley.

When I put Wrigley in the trip plan there were a lot of unknowns. Aside from the fact that the NWT tourism website mentions it, there is almost zero info online. There are no pictures of the road itself. It is far off the beaten path, that much is sure. Its 200km of length made …

Farther 2019. Hiking Summit Peak.

After a delightful day on the road to Wrigley, I headed south into BC.  Part 2 of my trip is all about spending some time in Northern BC, to better explore some of the places I saw 6 years ago.  One of these spots is Summit Lake on the Alaska Highway. On my way home …

Farther 2019. Stewart, BC

Stewart, BC. There's a special magic to this place. I struggle to put it in words and I feel like the photos just don't do it justice. I first visited in 2013 and have since considered Stewart to be one of my favorite little towns. Now I've returned 6 years later...and it is almost exactly …

Farther 2019. The Salmon Glacier.

I had such an epic day!  I've been imagining this for several years now.  The return to the Salmon Glacier, and exploring the old mining roads beyond.  It's for days like this that I bought a Jeep! I woke up to the sound of rain on the tent.  I'm starting to wonder if it rains …

Farther 2019. Rain Days on the Cassiar Highway

My drive on the Cassiar Highway through northern BC was wet and foggy. It wasn't an exciting time, but I thought I should write about the bad along with the good. Even the rain makes for interesting pictures and stories. This post is a bit late because northern BC has zero cell phone coverage, and …

Farther 2019. The Road to Telegraph Creek

I finally returned to Telegraph Creek, or more specifically, the road to Telegraph Creek. Six years ago I called it the best gravel road I'd ever been on, and I think that title still stands. It's 112 km of gravelly goodness, winding through the mountains toward the ghost town of Telegraph Creek. (there is also …

Farther 2019. First few days in Yukon

Yukon. I'm back. And it's just as grand as I remembered it. I'll admit, I was slightly worried that I had made it better in my head. I haven't arrived at the big mountains yet, but even the smaller ones are just so wild and majestic. It seemed like an almost instant transformation. I arrived …

Introducing: Skye, my new Jeep.
It's been a different summer. Due to my Jeep's starting issues I haven't really gone on any road/camping trips. This might end up being the quietest summer I've had since 2007...when I first began adventuring. I do have one trip planned with friends later this month, but otherwise I'm just patiently waiting for my new Jeep to arrive from the factory.(with no idea when that will be)
