The ice is tenacious. It holds on, even when it seems everything else is melting. It laughs in the face of the waves, seeming to turn every splash of warmth into another layer of cold. I’m not praising the ice. It doesn’t belong. It is a leftover of the cold, dead winter.
But this lake has come alive. The water that was once frozen has become a colourful splashing of living water. We know the end of this story. The ice melts. It must. It cannot stand against the warm waves. I am confident that on a day soon, I will stand on this pier surrounded by only warmth.
Sometimes it feel like the icy sins of our flesh cling to us so tightly that the waves of God’s work in our lives can never wash them away. But just like with the ice, we can be confident that as we come to life through Jesus, our old, sinful nature will be fully washed away. Be encouraged and take heart. Confidently fight against Satan.
The ice WILL melt as you look to Him for all you need.
“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.”
“Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.”
-Romans 6:6, 8
