Road Trip 2013: Day 7. Cloudy Day at Waterton.

It seems fitting that the next part in my road trip story is a rain day.  This was one full day that I spent in the mountains...without seeing any mountains.  The clouds were thick and completely covered the grandeur.  Despite the fact that I couldn't see the mountains, I knew they were still there, and …

Lost with a road map

Montreal and I have a bit of a frustrating history.  Driving through Montreal is part of any road trip to the maritimes.  I believe I've been through Montreal on 4 different road trips, and 3 of those four times I've managed to get lost. I like to think that I have a really good sense …

Road Trip 2013: Day 6

This journal entry is of the first non-driving day of the road trip, and the only complete day spent hiking. Day 6: Crypt Lake Trail – 3 km driven Today was a crazy day. I woke up at a decent time, and made my way down to the dock to arrange to go on the …

Optimism and the worst road trip ever.

Almost there.  The excitement grows as the French River bridge comes into view, and I enter the left turn lane.  As third gear slows the car, I begin to press on the brake pedal.  Nothing.  The pedal goes all the way to the floor without slowing the car at all.  We miss the turn, and …

Road Trip 2013: Day 5

Having these pre-written journal entries to post has made me lazy.  I do have some more philosophical entries percolating that will follow at some point.  Until then, I hope you enjoy the story of my road trip. Day 5: Cypress Hills to Waterton Lakes – 422 km driven This morning I woke up a bit …

Road Trip 2013: Day 4

Day 4 was the drive across the prairies and the first really exciting part of the trip.  I realized while reading through this entry that I had left out the fact that it did rain quite hard while driving in the afternoon.  Apparently the rest of the day had completely overshadowed the rain, so that …

Road Trip 2013: Day 3

The drive from Thunder Bay to Manitoba was probably the most boring part of the whole road trip, and as result this journal entry is less interesting.  It's still part of the story.  I would love to have something profound to add each time I post these, but I don't for this one... Day 3: …

Road Trip 2013: Day 2

As I continue to post journal entries from my road trip, I find it interesting to note that every day of the trip there were various trials, whether it be rain, or camping in overflow because there was no campsites....yet, I so easily believed that the trip was worth the trials.  If only that type …

Road Trip 2013: Day 1

I've had a lot of thoughts running through my head lately, and I'm still crafting more serious entries.  Until then, I thought I'd start posting some of my road trip journal from August 2013.  These were written each night of the trip, and are a little more documenting than my usual entries, but I enjoy …

Rainy day on the road. Stewart, BC

Rain and road trips don't really get along.  Driving becomes a bit of a pain as visibility is reduced and traffic slows down.  Scenic views are lost to the blur, and everything becomes cold and drab.  Depending on where you are, there may not be much to do...there are only so many gift shops one …

Introducing: Skye, my new Jeep.
It's been a different summer. Due to my Jeep's starting issues I haven't really gone on any road/camping trips. This might end up being the quietest summer I've had since 2007...when I first began adventuring. I do have one trip planned with friends later this month, but otherwise I'm just patiently waiting for my new Jeep to arrive from the factory.(with no idea when that will be)
