Road Trip 2013: Day 11. The Icefields Parkway

Most great roads that I've been on have moments of normal...times where the road is straight and there isn't much to see.  The great views and twisty parts come and go, punctuated by more or less regular driving.  The Icefields Parkway is not like that.  It is back to back, amazing mountains...with no normal parts. …

Road Trip 2013: Day 10. Banff

I really enjoyed my second day in Banff.  The time spent cruising down the Bow Valley Parkway with nowhere to be, no specific plan, and not a care in the world, was a highlight that I will always remember.  At this point in the trip there was no real sense of time, and no real …

Road Trip 2013: Day 9. Banff

I have looked forward to visiting Banff for many years.  The pictures that I had seen in books were amazing.  Lake Louise, Morraine Lake, Sulphur mountain...the list goes on.  I feel like it's a crime to not like Banff, but it was one of the few places I visited that didn't live up to expectations. …

Road Trip 2013: Day 8. The Road to Banff

Looking back on the road trip, I find it interesting to see which memories stuck out and embedded themselves in my mind.  My memory from day 8 is this: driving through Kootenay, with the windows down, arm out the window, surrounded by wonders...not a care in the world.  I recall thinking that this was exactly …

Road Trip 2013: Day 7. Cloudy Day at Waterton.

It seems fitting that the next part in my road trip story is a rain day.  This was one full day that I spent in the mountains...without seeing any mountains.  The clouds were thick and completely covered the grandeur.  Despite the fact that I couldn't see the mountains, I knew they were still there, and …

Lost with a road map

Montreal and I have a bit of a frustrating history.  Driving through Montreal is part of any road trip to the maritimes.  I believe I've been through Montreal on 4 different road trips, and 3 of those four times I've managed to get lost. I like to think that I have a really good sense …

Road Trip 2013: Day 6

This journal entry is of the first non-driving day of the road trip, and the only complete day spent hiking. Day 6: Crypt Lake Trail – 3 km driven Today was a crazy day. I woke up at a decent time, and made my way down to the dock to arrange to go on the …

It's so easy to forget how absolutely spectacular and out of this world the far north is. What an experience I was blessed with. What a glorious God who imagined all this and created it for us! Reality/Faith Rushing water Or is it a Tranquil mountain scene. "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known." 1 Corinthians 13:12 #mirror #somethingdifferent #bible #spectacularnwt #sambaadehfalls
The salt flats in Wood Buffalo National Park. July 2019. A very unique place, in Canada's largest National Park. Yet, I'll bet this is one of the least visited of the National Parks that have road access. Had a great time wandering through this alien landscape back in July! #explorecanada #woodbuffalonationalpark #farther2019 #canadanationalparks
This photo is becoming a favorite of mine. The scenery at Tombstone, Yukon is beyond amazing and this captures it. I admit, I'm struggling with being back, with not being on the road. But today is a great day to be reminded of the out of this world blessings that I've lived these past few months! I don't know what the future holds. But God had blessed me far beyond what I could imagine or deserve. Thanks be to God! Happy Thanksgiving. #thanksgiving #exploreyukon #dempsterhighway #tombstoneterritorialpark #yukon
